Purfect Purbaby Rescue reported a break-in Saturday. According to Salisbury Police, the cat rescue said that sometime between noon on Friday and about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, someone broke into their location on South Main Street.

The rescue reported that someone went through filing cabinets and stole several files, spray painted graffiti on the walls and released all of the cats that were in the front room. The rescue could not be reached for comment Monday morning, but posted a Facebook post in response to the break-in.

“This was not done for theft; it was done for vengeance by some really stupid, low-life vigilantes who believe it is better to kill an animal rather than give it a chance for a good life,” the post read.

The rescue has temporarily closed its doors in response, but reported on Facebook that none of the cats were harmed and have been moved out of the building and placed in foster homes.

“We wouldn’t even consider leaving them there,” the post said.
