Perdue plant in Concord shut down due to smoke

CONCORD – Smoke filled the Perdue Farms Plant at 862 Harris St. NW Monday night, prompting a fire alarm and leading to the plant closing for cleanup.
At 11:01 p.m, Monday, Concord Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the plant in Concord. Firefighters arrived within 3 minutes and saw the plant was full of smoke.
Crews quickly worked to ensure all occupants were out of the building and located the source of the emergency. A pipe supplying oil to heat exchangers in an oven had ruptured, causing the oil to vaporize, filling the plant with smoke.
Firefighters assisted by Perdue Emergency Response Personnel quickly secured the leak and removed the smoke, bringing the emergency under control at 11:33 p.m. No injuries were reported.
The plant was to shut down for an estimated one day while maintenance personnel repaired the damage.
Concord Fire Department was assisted by Kannapolis Fire Department and Concord Police Department. A total of 41 firefighters were called to the scene.
