Update — Rowan weather: Be careful out there

11 a.m. update. A mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow is falling.

The high will be around 23. Snow totals have been revised down to 2-4 inches. Ice accumulations still expected to be up to three-tenths of an inch.

Rowan is under a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service and local forecaster Steve Monday warn that conditions will deteriorate as the day progresses.

At 7 a.m., sleet is falling, with snow and sleet expected to continue until later today, when freezing rain begins. The timing of the changeover varies. Expect patchy fog and winds from the northeast at 13-17 mph, with gusts up to 26 mph. Accumulation estimates vary from one-tenth to three-tenths of an inch of ice and 2-5 inches of snow.

Expect freezing rain tonight, followed by snow. More patchy fog. Low around 27 with north northeast wind at 11-15 mph, with gusts up to 22 mph. An additional accumulation of ice up to one-tenth of an inch, with more snow, one to three inches.

Snow is likely Saturday morning, with cloudy skies and a high of 34. North northwest wind will continue at 8-14 mph, with gusts up to 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent, with less than an inch of additional snow.

No snow Saturday night, but cold, with a low of 23 and north northwest wind a 7-13 mph, gusts up to 22 mph.

Sunday will be sunny and warmer, with a high of 41. Northwest wind will blow at just 6 mph. Sunday night’s low will be a frigid 20 degrees.

Monday should be mostly sunny and warmer again, with a high of 47. The low will be 35.

A 30 percent chance of rain moves in Tuesday, with mostly cloudy skies and a high of 49. The chance of rain continues Tuesday night, with a low of 23.

Wednesday brings another chance of snow or rain, with a 40 percent chance of precipitation. The high will be 42 and the low will be 24.

Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high near 43.
