A former home health employee stole a credit card from a client and spent over $4,000 in a matter of weeks, according to Salisbury Police.
Lavonda Denise Jones, 44, of the 400 block of Carolina Boulevard, was charged Friday with one count financial transaction card fraud and one count financial transaction card take/obtain.
Salisbury Police say a family member who is the victim’s power of attorney noticed some unauthorized purchases on a credit card. Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said Jones was a caretaker for the victim. She worked for Trinity At Home.
Investigators determined the credit card was used 72 times with charges totaling $4,672 in purchases at Walmart, Family Dollar, O’Charley’s restaurant, Dollar Tree and other Salisbury businesses.
Lingle said Trinity officials were cooperative with law enforcement and in their efforts to “make it right” with the client.
Jones was seen on store surveillance video using the credit card, police said. She turned herself in to authorities Friday, Lingle said.
