Salisbury Police almost didn’t catch up to a man wanted on assault charges after an officer recognized him while he was sitting in a parked vehicle. An officer on patrol drove by a Franklin Street home when he noticed a couple sitting in the driveway.
He recognized the passenger as Jamie Jerico Horton, but by the time he turned his patrol vehicle around, the passenger was gone. Horton, 23, had jumped out of the vehicle and run into the nearby Franklin Street home, said Capt. Shelia Lingle.
An officer knocked on the door, someone opened it and the officer could see Horton trying to run out the back door. The officer called Horton’s name and he eventually returned to the front of the house where he was arrested.
When he was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center, officers found two grams of marijuana on him.
Horton, of the 800 block of Park Avenue, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance on a penal institute premises and an outstanding warrant for misdemeanor assault on a female from Jan. 12.
He has been convicted of assault on a female, communicating threats, marijuana possession and traffic infractions. Horton has a number of pending 2015 court cases involving misdemeanor maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substances, simple marijuana possession, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and assault by strangulation.
