Livingstone women squash St. Augustine’s

SALISBURY — Livingstone jumped on St. Augustine’s, winless in the CIAA, early and romped to a 104-58 victory here Wednesday night in women’s college basketball action at New Trent Gym.
With the win, Livingstone improves to 10-8 overall and 5-4 in the CIAA. The Falcons fall to 3-16 in all games and 0-9 in the conference.
The Blue Bears shot an amazing 80 percent from the 3-point line, making 12 of their 15 long-range shots. In all, Livingstone shot 55 percent from the field (42-of-76).
The Blue Bears shot nearly 60 percent (18-of-31) in the first half en route to a 49-26 halftime lead. The Falcons didn’t help themselves either, committing 18 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Guard Brittany Taylor led Livingstone with 11 first-half points, making all four of her shots, three from 3-point land, for 11 points.
The second half was more of the same for coach Anita Howard’s Blue Bears as they won the third quarter, 27-17, and the fourth period, 28-15.
Livingstone senior guard Amber Curtis scored 14 of her game-high 19 points in the second half, as the lead continued to grow. Curtis made three of her four 3-point shots.
Livingstone also out-rebounded the Falcons, 47-35.
St. Augustine’s shot a dismal 33 percent from the field (18-of-54) and an even worse (7-of-22) from the 3-point line arc.
Following Curtis’ usual solid game, Livingstone was paced by Taylor’s 15 points and 14 from Wende Foster. Toxiana Wilson and Kyala Searcy followed with 11 points each while Ariana De’Jesus added 10.
De’Jesus also lead the Blue Bears on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds. Foster had seven boards. Zena Lovette scored below her average with just three points, but she six rebounds, nine assists and five steals.
Shanika Harris and Ashanti Reid each scored 13 points to lead the Falcons. Shakeisha Washington added 11 points.
Livingstone returns to action on Saturday, hosting Winston-Salem State at 2 p.m.
