Area Sports Briefs: West nips Trojans in 10 innings

West Rowan’s baseball team won 5-1 at Northwest Cabarrus in a 10-inning SPC game on Friday.
UNC commit Austin Love struck out 14 in six innings for the Falcons (2-0, 2-0 SPC). Olen Stamper pitched three strong inings.
Love and Brandon Walton had two hits each.
Carson Bost was outstanding on the mound for the Trojans, and Alex Rodriguez had two hits.

North Rowan won 14-0 against North Hills in a non-conference game on Friday.
Lee Sells pitched a one-hitter for the Cavaliers.
Noah Gonzalez had three hits, while Steven Thurston had two. Driving in two runs each were Robbie Monroe, Corbin Smith and Will Anthony.

Davie won 10-0 against Ledford in five innings on Friday. Nathan Harrell pitched a complete game and fanned three.
Chris Reynolds, Paul Davenport, Beau Byerly and Mitchell McGee had two hits each for the War Eagles.

A.L. Brown lost to Mooresville 7-5 in a non-conference game on Friday.

Prep soccer
Hannah Smith scored two goals, and Cierra Josey and Cassidy Sears had one each, as Carson beat East Rowan in SPC action on Friday.
Megan Bolick had the shutout.

Carson has a jayvee program for the first time and won 5-0 against East Rowan. Elora Suggs scored two goals. Emily Sloop, Sarah Christy and Taylor Jones had one each.

Prep softball
Katie Jewell, Kayln Ellenberg, Brie Bauer and Madison Barnhardt had two hits each for Carson in a 5-3 win against East Rowan.
Rylie Stewart and Krista Peninger got the job done on the mound for the Cougars.
Bree Medlin drove in two runs for the Mustangs.

Prep tennis
Salisbury opened the tennis season on Friday with a 9-0 victory against A.L. Brown.
Salisbury hosts West Rowan at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Men’s basketball
Augusta junior Keshun Sherrill (West Rowan) was named first team Peach Belt All-Conference.
The No. 2 East seed Augusta Jaguars (17-10) face the West No. 1 seed Columbus State Cougars (21-6) today at 3:30 p.m. in the Lumpkin Center on the campus of Columbus State University for the PBC semifinals.
