Salisbury Police arrested a Salisbury man Thursday and charged him with driving drunk with children in his vehicle.

Nicholas Jack Buchanan, 30, was charged with misdemeanor child abuse, impaired driving in a commercial vehicle, failure to reduce speed and reckless driving, according to police reports.

Buchanan was involved in an accident on Thursday at the intersection of West Innes and North Craige streets in Salisbury. Salisbury Police spokeswoman Capt. Shelia Lingle said Buchanan had just picked up his children — ages 2 and 5 — from daycare.

The report said Buchanan had a blood alcohol level of 0.12. His two children were in the vehicle when he was involved in the accident.

Lingle said the accident involved injuries, but the extent of injuries was unclear.

Buchanan was booked into the Rowan County jail under a $7,500 secured bond. He remained in jail Friday morning.

• Rowan Salisbury Schools on Wednesday reported a larceny on the 100 block of Ed Deal Road in China Grove.

• A man on Wednesday reported credit card fraud on the 1300 block of Providence Church Road.

• Roger Lee McCarter, 36, was charged Wednesday with sex offense-use of social website on the 100 block of West Liberty Street.

• Kenneth Derrell Lark, 34, was charged Wednesday with breaking and entering on the 200 block of Ferndale Drive.

• Naudia C. Casey, 17, was charged Wednesday with possession of a schedule IV controlled substance on the 8000 block of N.C. Highway 801.

• Alicia Marleen Webb, 16, was charged Wednesday with possession of a schedule IV controlled substance on the 8000 block of N.C. Highway 801.

• Shannon Hess Webb, 45, was charged Wednesday with possession of a schedule IV controlled substance on the 200 block of Belmont Place.
