Area Sports Briefs: Carson baseball wins

Carson won 9-5 against Robinson in SPC baseball on Tuesday in China Grove.
Maddux Holshouser pitched into the sixth inning for the win. He struck out four.
Owen White drove in three runs, while Brandon Mock knocked in two.
Justin Bundy pitched five innings and took the loss.
Carson (3-1, 2-1 SPC) led 6-1, but Robinson (1-2, 1-2) SPC scored four runs in the sixth to make it a tight game.
Carson had nine hits, while Robinson had seven.

MOCKSVILLE — Davie County defeated RJ Reynolds, 12-2, in Central Piedmont Conference baseball action on Tuesday at Rich Park.
Left-hander Isaac Campbell (1-1) hurled five innings for Davie, striking out 10 batters and allowing just three hits.
The War Eagles’ offense was led by Nathan Harrell’s 3-for-4 day, including two doubles. Craig Colbourne was 2-for-2 and also had a double.
Davie (3-1) was also aided by six Reynolds (1-2) errors.
The War Eagles and Demons play again on Thursday at Reynolds.

Prep softball
Peyton Greene a pitched a no-hitter as West Rowan won 6-0 at South Rowan in SPC action on Tuesday.
Greene struck out 12.
Freshman Mary Sobataka hit two homers to lead West’s offense.
Sobataka had three hits, and Savannah Cline had two hits.
Alex Linder had a triple. Cline and Parker Greene had doubles.
Jalee Rollins pitched a complete game for South.

Makenzie Smith homered and drove in four runs as Davie routed R.J. Reynolds 18-1 on Tuesday in CPC action.

Prep soccer
West Rowan and South Rowan battled to a 1-all tie on Tuesday in SPC action.
Victoria Patterson scored a goal for the Falcons.
Taylor Mauldin scored for South Rowan.
Leslie Sanchez and Katelyn Goodman were standouts for the Raiders.

Carly Campbell scored for the Cougars. Megan Bolick had 14 saves.

Prep tennis
East Rowan won 9-0 against North Rowan on Monday.
Winners for East were Ike Emerson, Chance Brown, Robert Gray, Addison Fry, Nikolas Pillsbury and Zakk Perdue.
East (2-0) won 9-0 against West Rowan last week.

Local golf
Fifty-seven GARS members played a Texas Scramble at Corbin Hills on Monday.
The first-place team with a minus-4 consisted of Winsten Mahaffey, Larry Fowler, Clive Mahaffey and Buddy Barger.
Two teams tied for second at minus-3. The team of Mickey Ousley, Donnie Burris, Gary Morgan and Thomas Dodge won a scorecard playoff for second.
The third-place team consisted of O.J. Chandler, Ed Lockhart, Everett Hancock and Clyde Crawford.
John Hooper won closest to the pin on No. 2, and Lloyd Clodfelter won longest putt on No. 9.

College lacrosse
Shippensburg won 13-11 against Catawba’s women on Monday.
Scoring two goals each for Catawba (2-2) were Alyssa Corace, Meredith Jones, Nicolette Salay, Hannah Scott and Megan Shortt scored two goals each for Catawba. Jones had four assists.

College softball
Freshman Marissa Yow (West Rowan) is batting .390 for Radford.
Yow had three RBIs in a 6-3 win against UNC Wilmington on Sunday.

College golf
The Catawba women’s golf team wrapped up play at the Hilton Head Lakes Invitational on Tuesday.
The 36-hole event was hosted by Pfeiffer at the 5,800-yard, par-72 Hilton Head Lakes Golf Course.
Victoria Hedrick led Catawba with a two-round total of 161.
