A Statesville man has been charged with a first-degree sex offense with a child and is being held under $100,000 bond.

Charles Douglas Franklin, 48, of the 100 block of Happy Acres Drive, Statesville, was charged and arrested.

A report was filed by the Iredell County Department of Social Services involving the sexual abuse of a 5-year-old. The child was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center and said the abuse had gone on from January to November 2015. The child identified Franklin as the abuser.

Other witnesses provided information, as well, leading to Franklin’s arrest and charge of one count of first-degree sex offense of a child.

He is being held in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.
