Area Sports Briefs: Carson baseball wins, 296 for Cauble

Carson’s baseball team won at Concord, 9-4, on Friday to stay tied for first with West Rowan in the South Piedmont Conference.
Pearce Wilhelm drove and Michael Morrison drove in two runs each, and red-hot Brandon Mock had another big night at the plate.
Owen White was the winning pitcher with relief help from Caleb Hall and Cameron Prugh.
Carson took an 8-0 lead with a six-run fifth inning.
The win was the 296th for coach Chris Cauble, moving him past Bill Kesler for first place all-time for baseball coaches at Rowan schools.
Carter Mozingo and Sam Rogers had two hits each for Concord.

North Rowan won 5-3 at South Stanly on Friday.
Brandon White pitched into the sixth and struck out four. Lee Sells got the win, and Joe Harrison got a save.
Noah Gonzalez hit a game-winning, two-run homer in the seventh. Holden Lanier drove in two runs.

Davie won 8-4 against Reagan on Friday.
Jalen Scott was the winning pitcher for the War Eagles (6-1), who are 4-0 in the CPC.
Paul Davenport had three hits for Davie. Scott and Brandon Lankford had two apiece.

South Rowan got in a 7-1 hole at Central Cabarrus and lost 7-5 in SPC play.
Central scored three runs in the first inning.

Prep softball
West Rowan beat East Rowan 5-4 in nine innings on Friday in Mount Ulla.
Morgan Corriher delivered the game-winning hit for the Falcons.
Corriher, Mary Sobataka and Savannah Cline had two hits each. Taylor Martin scored two runs. Khara Fesperman drove in two for West.
Winning pitcher Peyton Greene struck out seven.
East got RBIs from Coryn Soul, Caroline Johnson, Schrade Daniel and Courtney Wagner.
Anna Shafer struck out nine batters.

A.L. Brown won 12-6 against Hough in a MECKA game on Friday to move to 3-0 in the league.

West Rowan won 3-1 against East Rowan on Friday.
Victoria Patterson scored two goals. Stacey Ketchie scored one. Haley Chuor had an assist.

Gray Stone won 6-0 against defending 1A champ Raleigh Charter on Friday in Chapel Hill.
Laurie Fogleman scored three goals, Annie Habeeb scored two goals and had twoassists. Kelsey Kiser scored and Wesley Harrington had two assists.
Ivy Overcash had the shut out in goal.
The Knights take on tournament hosts Woods Charter today at 3:30.

Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart’s girls soccer team defeated Salisbury Academy 4-2.
Caroline Cardelle and Sutton Webb scored two goals each. Theresa Holland led the defense for the Dolphins.

Webb played great defense at center back.

Former Livingstone sprinter Quanera Hayes won and set a personal best in the 400 at the US indoor track and field championships in Portland, Ore.,
Hayes won with a 51.09 clocking.
