Emergency personnel responded late Tuesday to a wreck on Interstate 85 involving a tractor-trailer and multiple other vehicles.

Multiple people were injured in the crash, although it was not clear at deadline exactly how many were injured or the seriousness of their injuries.

The wreck happened around 10:30 p.m. just south of the Julian Road exit in the southbound lanes of the interstate.

Medical responders arriving on the scene reported some of the people involved out of their cars and in the roadway. At least four ambulances were initially called to the crash.

More than one of the wreck victims was taken to Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast in Concord, according to emergency radio communications.

Traffic was blocked in all lanes of the highway. Emergency responders remained committed for about an hour.
