SPENCER — The Spencer Board of Aldermen will be discussing an employment agreement for the permanent town manager position at tonight’s meeting at 600 S. Salisbury Ave. at 7 p.m.
The board will be discussing the agreement with Interim Town Manager Reid Walters during a closed session.
Walters became interim town manager in December of last year after former town manager Larry Smith resigned in November.
The board reviewed 20 applications for the interim town manager position and chose three applicants for hour-long interviews. Walters, a former member of Spencer’s Board of Aldermen, was chosen for the job.
Walters left his position on the board in September for a town manager opening in Bethel.
The board will also be discussing four ordinance amendments during the meeting. The first two amendments concern the keeping of dogs and the penalty associated with not following the ordinance.
According to Tori Lowe, town clerk, the amendments will set limitations on the amount of time dog owners can keep their dogs tethered and what kind of shelters will be allowed.
In other board business, the board will:
- Hear departmental, town manager, mayoral and delegate reports.
- Hear public comment.
- Consider a resolution of intent to close an alley in the 500 block of 2nd street.
- Discuss National Train Day on May 13, 2017.
- Hear from Daniel McClerin, who has requested to address the board.
- Make an appointment to the Community Appearance Commission.
- Set a date for the budget workshop.
- Discuss an audit contract.
- Discuss a street paving proposal.
- Hear a presentation from RowanWORKS.
- Discuss Spencer Woods.
