Bloom Enchanted

Join Salisbury Academy Saturday, April 16 at the N.C. Transportation Museum for a memorable evening of dancing, food and drinks, and a live auction at the Bloom Enchanted evening gala.
In addition to being a time to connect with the community and see faces both old and new, Bloom generates support for causes and needs in the community. This year’s Bloom proceeds will help support:
• Providing scholarships for Salisbury-Rowan high school students to attend the Broyhill Leadership Conference, an educational opportunity for student leadership that will prepare young people for roles as future community leaders and expose them to new ideas for improving Salisbury and Rowan County.
• Summer camps by Footprints in the Community, a nonprofit organization with a mission of inclusion and a passion for ensuring that children with special needs are afforded opportunities for the typical offerings of the community in which their peers participate.
• Phase 1 of Salisbury Academy’s Outdoor Space of the future.
Tickets are $150 per person. Visit www.salisburyacademy.org/bloom.cfm for more information.
Sacred Heart to hold open house
Sacred Heart will be hosting a community outreach educational program on Thursday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m. on the Sacred Heart Catholic School campus.
Tamika Ruffin from College Foundation of North Carolina will present information for parents on how to pay for college. Ruffin will talk about ways to start planning and saving now so families will be prepared for the cost of higher education — especially if they have multiple children.
This will be a chance to learn what you can do now to help be ready to pay for college when your child graduates from high school.  The earlier you start to plan, the better. Sacred Heart encourages all parents — even with children as young as Pre-K — to attend.
Regional Quiz Bowl

The Davidson County Public Library System will be hosting the Regional Public Library Quiz Bowl competition on Saturday, April 16 at Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville at 11 a.m. The champions of local public library quiz bowl competitions from seven counties will be participating: Ledford Senior High School (Davidson County Library), Roanoke Rapids High School (Halifax County Library), Lee County High School (Lee County Library), Arendell Parrott Academy (Kinston-Lenoir County Library), South Stokes High School (Northwestern Regional Library), D.H. Conley High School (Sheppard Memorial Library) and Gray Stone Day School (Stanly County Library).

The academic competition is comprised of matches between high school quiz bowl teams in a double-elimination format. Quiz Bowl questions come from a wide range of subjects, including literature, religion, math, science, history, geography, politics, current events and the arts.

This is the final level of public library quiz bowl competition for the year. There has been no state final contest since 2006 when the N.C. State Library ceased its sponsorship of quiz bowl competitions. Directors of some of the public libraries across the state are continuing the quiz bowl tradition by hosting local tournaments and rotating responsibility for hosting regional events to allow for an advanced level of competition.

The public is invited to attend. Call 336-242-2941 for further information.
