EAST SPENCER — The town board will discuss on Tuesday its approval of a $30,500 Carolina Thread Trail grant that, once accepted, will fund the planning and development of segments of a trail that would lead to Royal Giants Park.

The grant would fund the Town Creek Greenway Trail to connect the Andrews Street overpass to and through Royal Giants Park. The grant is contingent upon the town securing $30,500 in funding from the N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) or other sources.

The town has received some funding throughout the last few years toward the cost of the rebuilding of the park, including $25,000 from the Woodson Foundation, $5,500 from Waste Management and $30,000 from the Stanback Foundation.

The board is also expected to discuss the town’s $450 purchase of a peace pole and its accompanying plaques.

The board initially met for its regular meeting April 4, but voted to reconvene so that aldermen could discuss the grant and have a budget session. This will be the first of at least three budget sessions.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., 105 S. Long St.
