Area Sports Briefs: South Rowan baseball wins again

South Rowan won at Hickory Ridge, 11-5, on Thursday in a game moved up a day because of the weather forecast.
It was 2-all after three and 5-5 after five, but the Raiders (14-7, 10-6) settled the outcome with a five-run sixth.
Peyton Penninger had a two-run double in the sixth. Shaggy Wyatt and Blake Johnson had run-singles.
Dillon Norton pitched five innings for the win, and Tyler Shpeherd finished.
Stallions
The Greater Cabarrus Stallions defeated Union Academy 6-0 on Thursday.
Hunter Shepherd, AJ Knight and McConner Wallace had two hits each. Caleb Threadgill had a double.
Wallace pitched four scoreless innings and got relief help from Seth Cauble and Dalton Lankdford.
The Stallions(22-5) will travel to Auburndale Florida next week to play in the Homeschool World Series.

Prep softball
A.L. Brown will be the MECKA champion.
The Wonders won their 10th straight league game on Thursday, beating Mallard Creek on the road, 10-0.
Kaylee Cook pitched a complete game and struck out 10.
Kaitlin Moore and Brandi Blackmon drove in two runs each for the Wonders.
Brae Woods and Blackmon had two hits each.

Prep soccer
Carson won 3-0 against South Rowan in SPC action on Thursday.
Hayat Myers, Cierra Josey and Carly Campbell scored for the Cougars. Megan Bolick had the shutout.
Salisbury
Salisbury won 3-2 against Ledford in a non-conference match on Thursday.
Salisbury’s Katie Bullock scored on a Ceci Cardelle assist for a 1-0 halftime lead .
Maria Capito assisted on a Cardelle goal and Julia Honeycutt scored on a free kick as the Hornets (15-2-1, 3-2) took a 3-1 lead.
Shaylyn Owen scored both Ledford goals.
Salisbury goes to Thomasville on Monday.

Pro baseball
Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) has been pitching well for the Toledo Mud Hens, Detroit’s Triple-A team.
Parnell has made four appearances, all for one inning, and he has three saves. He’s allowed one run, while walking one and striking out five.

Craig Brooks (Catawba) had his best outing so far for the South Bend Cubs on Wednesday. He struck out five in two scoreless innings.
For the season, he’s fanned nine in seven innings.

Omaha’s Whit Merrifield (Davie) stole three bases on Tuesday and three more on Wednesday.
Merrifield is 9-for-9 on steals this season. He’s batting .265 for the Royals’ Triple-A team.

Intimidators
Landon Lassiter doubled in a pair of runs in the second inning, and Kannapolis never looked back in a 9-3 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Thursday night at Intimidators Stadium.
Lassiter finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Johnathan Frebis (2-1) fought through five innings to earn the win for Kannapolis.
The Intimidators continue the four-game series against Delmarva tonight.

College baseball
Catawba’s baseball series at Wingate has been altered due to the threat of rain today. The series will start with Saturday’s doubleheader at 3 p.m. The third game of the series will be Sunday at 3 p.m.

Basketball camp
West Rowan Falcon Basketball Camp dates are June 13-15 and July 11-13 from 9-1 daily. The cost for a camp is $50.

Prep hoops
West Davidson’s 5-foot-7 guard Carson Beane signed with Pfeiffer basketball. Beane averaged 12.1 points and 5.4 assists for the Green Dragons.

Sacred Heart shot 177 to win a match with Erwin, Concordia and North Hills .
Leading the Dolphins was Ben Childress with a 42. Luke Graeber, Nick Antosek and Sean Archer shot 45s. Medalist Austin Miller led Erwin with a 40.
