Carrick’s blast beats Alabama for Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Freshman catcher Ben Carrick belted a one-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Samford over Alabama, 3-2, in front of a season-high 1,917 fans at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
Carrick, who played high school baseball at Ardrey Kell in Charlotte, is the grandson of Duane Carrick of Salisbury. His parents, Allen and Kimberlie Carrick, are Catawba College graduates.
