LANDIS — The N.C. Department of Public Safety says an inmate who escaped overnight from a Polkton minimum security facility more than 50 miles away, was located in Landis earlier today.

The inmate, Devin Brown, 22, was serving a nearly five-year sentence for habitual impaired driving and was scheduled for release in March 2019. Corrections and law enforcement officers say he escaped from Brown Creek Correctional Institution.

Department of Public Safety fugitive officers and dogs captured Brown shortly after noon in a wooded area in Landis. He’d fled 12 hours earlier.
