Area Sports Briefs: Richardson all-tournament

Catawba senior second baseman Dylan Richardson was named to the Southeast Regional baseball all-tournament team. The team was announced after the conclusion of the regional won by Lander.
Richardson was selected as the top second baseman in the tournament. He had a pair of hits in each of Catawba’s two games. He had a homer and a double.
Junior Legion
Carson won, 10-7, against the Kannapolis Royals on Tuesday at A.L. Brown.
Garrett Alewine had two hits for Carson. Sollie Holshouser had two RBIs.
Maxx Mills had four hits for Kannapolis. Nick Pepper had two RBIs.
Minor leagues
Tanner Banks struck out six batters to match his career high, but the Lexington Legends beat the Kannapolis Intimidators, 3-1, on Tuesday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Banks (6-2) suffered his second straight loss.
The Intimidators play early today in Leington to finish the series.
The Intimidators return home on Thursday to open a seven-game homestand starting with Motorsports Night.
The Intimidators promoted outfielder Michael Suiter to Winston-Salem on Tuesday and received outfielder Frank Califano from Extended Spring Training,
Local golf
Sixty-one GARS members played at Warrior Golf Club.
Low ‘A’ Flight player was Buddy Barger with a net of 62.21. Low ‘B’ Flight player was Ron Ervin with a net of 63.01. Low ‘C’ Flight player was Jan Kichefski with a net of 64.04. Low ‘D’ Flight player was Bert Bollinger with a net of 61.53.
Nine members shot their age or better. Buddy Barger, Bert Bollinger, O.J. Chandler, Winsten Mahaffey, Lou Manning, J.C. Ritchie, Mick Rowell, Guy Schenck and Clayton Steele.
Free football camp
The 2nd annual Beyond the Lights Camp will be held at Salisbury High on Saturday, May 28.
The camp is free and includes a football camp, a cheer camp and an alumni flag football game.
There will be activities from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The camp is presented by Beyond The Lights Youth Services. This is a non-contact camp designed to improve beginning, intermediate or advanced skill level. This camp will serve as both a youth football camp as well as a middle school & high school football combine/showcase.
The morning session will cater to the younger age groups, specifically boys and girls ages 5 -12.
Salisbury Academy
Salisbury Academy sports camps:
• June 6-9, 9 until noon, for rising 4th-8th grade girls: Coach Lainey McMillan will be running girls volleyball camp teaching basic skills as well as enhancing those already accomplished.
Cost $80.
• June 13-16, 9 until 12 for rising 3rd-8th grade girls: Coach Teresa Knox will be running girls basketball camp teaching team building, basic skills, and love of the sport.
Cost $80.
