Rowan weather: Chance of rain for weekend; poor air today

We’re going to have another poor air quality day. An air quality alert is in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality has issued a code orange air quality action day for ground level ozone. The ozone may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.

It will be a warm day, with a high of 86 under partly cloudy skies, and calm wind becoming southwest at 5-7 mph this afternoon. A 20 percent chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms is possible tonight, with patchy fog forming after 4 a.m. The low will be 65, with light winds.

Friday also has a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon. The day will start with patchy fog, then skies will turn mostly sunny, with a high of 84. South southwest wind will blow at 3-7 mph. Friday night will be clear, with a low of 62.

Saturday looks like the best day of the long weekend, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 84. Winds will come from the east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Then, it’s back to a 20 percent chance of showers for Saturday night, with a low of 65.

Sunday has a 50 percent chance of showers, with thunderstorms possible after 11 a.m. It will be mostly cloudy with a high of 81. Sunday night also has a 50 percent chance of rain, with a low of 65.

For Memorial Day, look for a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly cloudy skies and a high of 81. The same chance of rain hangs around Monday night, with a low of 64.

Tuesday also has a 50 percent chance of showers, with partly sunny skies and a high near 82. Tuesday night’s chance of showers is 40 percent, with a low of 65.

And Wednesday has a 40 percent chance of showers and storms, too, with partly sunny skies again and a high of 82.
