Tree service worker dies after falling off truck

CHINA GROVE — A tree service employee died Wednesday after falling from a company truck and being crushed by a large piece of equipment, according to officials, WBTV reported.

The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. on N.C. 152 near Power Street. Officials told WBTV that employees with Big Al & Sons Tree Service were riding in the back of a truck.

When the employees got out of the truck then back in, according to the TV station, one was not able to get on before the driver began moving, and the employee fell off the truck.

Officers told WBTV that a large wood chipper then fell on the employee.

Law enforcement and emergency responders performed CPR on the victim for more than 30 minutes, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s name had not been released late Wednesday.

Investigators have not said if any charges are being filed, according to the WBTV report.

Big Al & Sons Tree Service is based in Thomasville, according to a listing search.

The accident was initially reported as a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
