Superintendent of Rowan-Salisbury Schools

Come experience Rowan-Salisbury Schools! Our staff and many students have been running at high speed over the summer preparing, learning, sharing, reviewing, retreating, camping and energizing to continue the learning for our children.  This is not just the beginning of a new school year, in reality — this is a continuation of building a better future for our children and community.

I cannot think of a better way to tell you about our district than to invite you to come and be a part of the Rowan-Salisbury School Experience!

Students in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools want to show you their work and to tell you about their schools.

A popular event is our student-hosted Community School Visits. Each Wednesday during the school year (except for holidays), one school in the district opens their doors and welcomes the community to come on in, visit and see what our students are doing. And who better to be in charge of leading these visits than our children? Principals provide a brief overview, light refreshments are served and the rest of the visits are lead by our extraordinary students.

Students will lead you on a journey of illustrating their work. You will experience students learning in teams on group projects — students talking, reading and writing about their work. You will also see bright, colorful collaborative spaces for students to gather and learn together. We are transforming, we are changing, we are excited and we want you to join us.

Student ambassadors lead the visits, answer questions, tell their stories and showcase the work being accomplished in their schools. While each school provides the excellence to educating our children, each school takes on its own identity. Each school is unique and each school serves unique students who are eager to show you and tell you all about their schools.

So come on senior citizens, parents, business and church communities, for-profits, non-profits, taxpayers, non-taxpayers, elected officials, retirees and college students – if you live and breathe in Rowan County, you are invited. Our public schools are your schools and we want you here!

Horizon’s Unlimited kicks off this year’s community school visits on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 8:30 a.m.

The complete school visit schedule is found on the district’s website at: http://www.rss.k12.nc.us/school-visits. For more information, contact the public information office at 704-630-6103.
