Jewish Sacred Aging Specialist to Visit Davidson and Statesville
Rabbi Richard F. Address is founder and director of Jewish Sacred Aging and jewishsacredaging.com. He was ordained from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1972 and received his honorary Doctor of Divinity in 1997. He recently completed a tenure as senior rabbi of Congregation Mkor Shalom in Cherry Hill, NJ where he assumed the pulpit in 2011. Rabbi Address’s work includes several major areas: the changing faces of the contemporary Jewish family; challenges to our congregations relating to older adults and the aging of the baby boom generation, their spiritual aging and the challenges of intergenerational care-giving; concerns over self-destructive behaviors, resiliency and the pressures on our youth; issues of inclusiveness and openness for people with disabilities and the impact of emerging medical technology on the choices that confront today’s Jews.
This month, Rabbi Address will be traveling to Davidson and Statesville to lead three events. On Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. he will give a sermon titled “Live Long and Prosper” at a Shabbat (Sabbath) service of seeking, of gratitude, and of healing. There will be a kiddush, oneg, and refreshments after the service. On Saturday, Sept. 10 from 4-5:30 p.m. he will lead a text study titled, “How to Embrace & Embody Being A Caring Community” followed by a Havdalah (end-of-Sabbath) service and refreshments. On Sunday, Sept. 11 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. there will be a brunch followed by a lecture titled, “Embracing A New Jewish Future.”
The Friday and Saturday events will be held at Temple Kol Tikvah (605 South St., Davidson) and the Sunday event will be held at Congregation Emanuel (206 Kelly St., Statesville).
All programs are free and open to the public. An RSVP is requested one week prior to the events at reservations@jclkn.org
