Salisbury’s girls tennis team won, 9-0 against West Davidson in a CCC match on Wednesday.
Winning for the Hornets in singles were Maria Capito, Skye Mowery, Bethanie Stauffer , Rachel Seifert, Rainey Dunham and Ruth Clement.
Winning in doubles for the Hornets (6-1, 4-0 CCC) were Capito/Mowery, Stauffer/Seifert and Clement/Dunham.
Salisbury is seeking its 14th consecutive CCC championship.

Concord won, 9-0, against East Rowan in SPC tennis on Wednesday.
Concord is 3-0 in the SPC, while East fell to 2-1.
Singles scores:
Concord’s Katie Earhardt won 6-0, 6-0 against East’s Katie Barnes.
Concord’s Molly Handler won 6-2, 7-5 against East’s Angel Scialdone.
Concord’s Haynes won 6-0, 6-1 against East’s Lauren Weisensel.
Concord’s Andrea Brenk won 6-0, 6-1 against East Rowan’s Mia Graham.
Concord’s Izzy Norman won 6-0, 6-1 against East’s Shannon Mahaffey.
Concord’s Adelle Patton won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.
In doubles, Earnhardt/Brenk won 10-2 against Barnes/Scialdone. Handler/Haynes won 10-4 against Weinsensel/Mahaffey. Norman/Patton won 10-2 against Graham/Plyler.

The Falcons are 6-0 and 3-0 in the SPC.
West’s Payton Holt won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 against Marissa Sides.
West’s MacKenzie Koontz defeated Kaitlyn McCombs, 6-0, 6-2.
West’s Amber White defeated Kristen Minehart, 6-1, 7-5.
West’s Skylar Jahnke defeated South’s Lauren Shell, 6-3, 6-4.
West’s Madison Smith defeated Jamie Minehart, 6-1, 6-1. West’s Mira White (WR) defeated Karrigan Mushala, 6-4, 6-1
Holt/Koontz defeated Sides/McCombs, 10-1.
White/Abby Johnson defeated Minehart-Shell 10-2.
Jahnke-Haley Chuor defeated Minehart-Mushala, 10-4.
College men’s soccer
Catawba men’s soccer team won its home opener for the first time since 2013 with a 2-1 victory over visiting Newberry on Wednesday night at the Frock Soccer Complex.
Catawba (2-1, 1-0 SAC) got goals from Tobias Iriah and Daniele Proch.
Women’s soccer
Catawba claimed its first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of visiting Newberry in SAC women’s soccer action on Wednesday at the Frock Soccer Complex.
Catawba (1-1-1, 1-0) got goals from Bailey Howell, Caitlin Hill and Kiersten Peck. Liz Nail kept the clean sheet in goal for Catawba, stopping six shots.
Catawba will face another league test on Saturday, traveling to Mars Hill for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
Prep soccer
Cox Mill’s Colin Noone scored nine goals in two matches and was named NCHSAA male athlete of the week.
Prep volleyball
North Rowan won its CCC opener against Lexington on Tuesday.
The Cavaliers won 25-23, 23-25, 8-25, 25-22 and 15-11.
Prep girls golf
In SPC golf at Rocky River on Wednesday, Hickory Ridge won with a 144 score. Cox Mill shot 145.
East Rowan took third place with 159.
Cox Mill’s Jaidan Rubinstein was medalist with a 42. Hickory Ridge’s Maddie Hayes shot 43.
Leading East Rowan was Camryn Corriher with a 49.
West Rowan and South Rowan shot 176. Carson shot 178.
Mid. school football
Knox defeated China Grove, 36-0, in eighth-grade football.
Linebacker Issiah Clay ripped the ball from arunning back’s hands, and took it 48 yards for a defensive score for Knox.
Clay also accounted for two 2-point conversions.
Other outstanding defensive plays came from Tkaii Gaither, Ben Blumenthal, Josh Hill and Jourdain Terry.
Strong offensive line play by Zeek Biggers opened up running and throwing lanes for QB Vance Honeycutt.
Sincere Houston had a 21-yard scoring run. Mike “ Do Everything” McClean had a 36-yard rushing TD and a 56-yard punt return TD. He threw a touchdown pass to Pryce Phillips.
Varney Farhbullah had a two-point conversion.
The Trojans host Mooresville on Wednesday.

Erwin won, 36-6, against Corriher-Lipe in eighth-grade football.
Scoring for the Eagles were Sammy Pinckney, Tayron Frost, Isaac Hinceman and Dylan Kegeris.
Hinceman kicked two PATS.
The Eagles will travel to North Rowan next Wednesday at 4 p.m.

China Grove defeated Knox, 20-8, on Tuesday in seventh-grade football.
Nathan Chrismon scored on a 50-yard run and a 72-yard kickoff return. Aiden Kirchbaum scored on a 15-yard run, and Jacob Ritchie kicked a PAT.
Defensively, Keison Tillman had an interception and Ben Stegall had a fumble recovery. Other defensive standouts were Gabe Pozyck, Nathan Chrismon and Damien Hernandez.
Mid. school tennis
West Rowan Middle defeated Corriher Lipe, 8-1, on Wednesday.
Leading the Bulldogs (2-1) in singles were Lacy Waggoner, Gracie Wise, Noelle Sparks and Lauren Corriher while Hailey Foster, Lucero Mercado, and Elizabeth Bogle each won doubles matches.
