SALISBURY — A Salisbury man was charged with the rape of a 10-year-old girl, who officials say was a neighbor.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged David Michael Fisher, 42, with felony indecent liberties with a child and felony first-degree statutory rape.

Officials said the girl was taken to the hospital Sept. 9 and the incident was reported while at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Authorities were called and the girl told officials the incident occurred the day before.

The child was tranferred to Brenner Children’s Hospital. The Rowan County Department of Social Services was contacted and are conducting their own investigation.

Fisher remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond.
