Local Bridge with Myrnie McLaughlin

As I got further into my thinking about this column I realized it was a metaphor about life in general and about these times in particular. According to an article that appeared in the Bridge Bulletin in 1987 there are 6 rules of bridge one never breaks.
The first one is “your partner is your best friend.” He is to be regarded with “respect and affection and tenderness.” It is your responsibility to root for and help him to do the right things. But if he misplays or guesses wrong, sympathize with him because you know he feels worse than you. If your partner feels relaxed he will probably think more clearly, play better and you can cooperate better. You are more likely to achieve good results therefore higher scores. This attitude helps you both to “more closely approach harmony with life and bridge.” Understanding goes a long way.
Our Friday, Sept.16 Evergreen Club Championship game was well-attended. The hands were just as or more crazy than usual. Winning N/S: 1st and 1st overall Pat Featherston and Dick Brisbin, 2nd and 4th overall Marie Pugh and Ruth Bowles, 3rd Loyd and Jean Hill. E/W 1st and 2nd overall Toni Iossi and Patsy Reynolds, 2nd and 3rd overall Pat Macon and Judy Gealy , 3rd and 5th overall Genny Mozolak and Joe O’Brien.
Picking out a featured board was especially a challenge but board # 22 won the prize. E/W vulnerable East the dealer

Best N/S score went to Marie Pugh and Ruth Bowles setting 4HE 2 tricks while E/W best went to Nancy Brandt and BettyBonner Steele with 3NE+2. Can’t quite see, but maybe you can.
Once again there was a change in scoring for the Tuesday’s game. I always edit as best I can but when a score is put on the wrong side on the slip and E/W doesn’t check it, it becomes a problem. Please check the scores. If this happens again I will have to keep the score as written.
Tuesday, Sept. 20 Women’s Club game winners: 1st Fern Albracht and Christy Cline, tied for 2nd /3rd Georgia Sorensen and Wade Lowder with Loyd and Jean Hill, 4th Marie Pugh and Dick Brisbin.
