Melissa Hoffner and Shirley Griffin were the official starters on Saturday morning at the Second Annual St. Matthew’s 5K. Both are fighting cancer, so several hundred runners, walkers and spectators came out to support them on a beautiful fall morning. Proceeds will help with the medical expenses of Hoffner and Griffin.
Fred Johnson was the overall winner with a time of 18 minutes and 21 seconds, followed by second place Craige Farmer who cruised the beautiful and rural 3.1 mile course in 19:56. Ashlinn Trexler led the women by clocking 22:47 while Florelay Brown took second in 24:41.
Top half-mile fun runners were Troy Hill and Tiffin Jacobs with times of 3:25 and 3:45. The event had more than 25 total sponsors. Complete results are at www.salisburyrowanrunners.org.
