Mooresville man charged with 82 sex offense counts

An Iredell County man has received 81 additional charges for sexually assaulting a child, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday.
On Nov. 25, James Robert Tewell, 44, of 11 Starwood Drive, Mooresville, was charged with statutory rape after a report was filed with the Sheriff’s Office. According to an e-mailed press release, the victim reported being sexually assaulted between 2013 and 2016. Tewell was charged with one count of statutory rape.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit continued the investigation. The child was taken to the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center, where they were interviewed by Detective Sergeant Amy Dyson. The result of that interview is an additional 81 charges.
Tewell was charged Thursday with 34 counts of statutory rape, 35 counts of statutory sex offense, one count of rape of a child, one count of sexual offense with a child adult offender, five counts of second-degree rape adult offender and five counts of second-degree sexual offense.
Tewell was being held in the Iredell County Detention center in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond, and has been given an additional $500,000 secured bond.
