Saturday evening’s Swing into Christmas Show with the Salisbury Swing Band was an enormous success.

Held at the Salisbury Civic Center, the event raised over $1,300 for Rowan Helping Ministries. The evening’s attendees also donated approximately 200 pounds of canned goods to the organization’s food pantry.

From the stylings of Gershwin and Porter to crooners Sinatra and Martin, the crowd enjoyed several hours of dancing and refreshment, while listening to the season’s most cherished songs.

The Salisbury Swing Band and Rowan Helping Ministries plan to make this evening of music an annual holiday event.

The performance was made possible by the generous support of sponsors Gerry Wood Auto Group, the Hot Dog Shack and Longhorn Steakhouse.

Led by Catawba College’s Dr. Stephen Etters and fronted by vocalist, Laura Millspaugh, the Salisbury Swing Band is an 18-piece dance band performing a wide repertoire of swing era tunes and modern hits.
