A headline worthy of Florida

I was very upset by the news of a Salisbury man who went into a Washington pizza shop with a rifle and a shotgun to “self-investigate” for child-slavery tunnels under the floor.

Look, here in Florida we worked hard to make our state the craziest in the union, with stripper bars that provide vaccinations, a naked man running after a police car at nighttime to ask for cocaine, a man charged for folding a woman into a couch, face-eating zombies, a man who died after winning a cockroach-eating contest and alligators turning in backyard swimming pools.

We don’t appreciate some neophyte coming along and trying for something crazier without doing a lot of background and preparatory work like we have.

Celebrating Sinatra

My annual salute celebrating Frank Sinatra’s birthday, Dec. 12, continues. His legions of fans include Peggy King and the All-Star Jazz Trio; big band singer Harry Prime; talent promoter/musician Billy Jon Coogan; Chris Valenti, program director of WYYR; music archivist Anthony DiFlorio III; actress Jane Powell; singer Tony Bennett; author Will Friedwald; and DJ Ronnie Allen among many other luminaries of the entertainment industry. Happy birthday, Francis Albert Sinatra (101). Here’s hoping our education system sees its way clear to add “Sinatra 101” to their learning curriculum. That would be a fitting tribute to the man who gave so much to enriching our culture and way of life.
