College basketball
Pfeiffer’s men rolled 111-78 at North Greenville on Tuesday.
Mike Smith scored 20 and A.J. Clark had 19, all in the first half, to lead the Falcons.

Pfeiffer lost the women’s game to North Greenville, 75-68, despite a career-high 21 points from Sydni Bickford and 19 by Meg Pritchard.

Catawba plays at Wingate tonight, while Livingstone goes to Virginia Union.
Catawba guard Bri Johnson has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 2-9.
Johnson averaged 22 points while shooting 66 percent from the floor in a pair of victories for the Catawba Indians last week.
Her contributions helped the Indians produce the top two three-point shooting games in school history, making 14 vs. Queens and 13 against Brevard. Johnson also finished the week of with a total of four rebounds, eight assists, and four steals.
Prep baseball
Carson junior Owen White was named to Perfect Game USA/Rawlings “Finest in the Field” team, a Gold Glove team for high school players.
“When coming off the mound to field he charges well with strong, accurate throws to various bases and is always in a good position to release the ball.,” Perfect Game said.
Prep basketball
Concord Robinson’s Lavar Batts Jr. is a McDonald’s All-America Game nominee.
The 6-foot-3 point guard signed with Virginia Commonwealth. He’s averaging 26.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.9 blocks for the Bulldogs.

In the new NCPreps.com poll, Salisbury’s girls are ranked fourth in 2A.
Hickory Ridge’s girls are ranked No. 1 in 3A.
Cox Mill (second), Robinson (fifth), Hickory Ridge (sixth) and West Rowan (seventh) give the SPC four teams ranked in the top 10 in 3A.
College football
Former Concord Spider Chris Webb, a redshirt freshman offensive lineman at Concord University in West Virginia, has transferred to Campbell to continue playing football for Coach Mike Minter.
Prep golf
South Rowan’s Parker Chavis has committed to Pfeiffer’s golf program.
College wrestling
Logan Durham (South Rowan) won his match for Appalachian State at 125 pounds in a recent win vs. The Citadel.
Next for Appalachian is a match at Duke on Jan. 17.

Sacred Heart basketball
The Sacred Heart jayvee girls defeated Immaculate Heart of Mary of High Point, 14-6. Gianna Patella had eight points and Faye Carol Shellhorn added six.
Sacred Heart’s jayvee goys lost to IHM, 39-17. Curtis Walker had eight points and four rebounds, Kaiden Dulkoski added four points and five rebounds.
Sacred Heart’s varsity girls won against West Rowan Middle, 36-31. Rachel McCullough had 26 points and Sutton Webb had eight.
Sacred Heart’s varsity boys won against West Rowan, 20-19. Will Webb and Jalon Walker each had five points, Connor Hennie added four.
Sacred Heart will host Concordia on Thursday and Salisbury Academy on Friday.
NCHSAA
Morgan Haith from Western Alamance High School and Devonte Pettaway from North Pitt High School are the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award winners.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Haith, a junior on the Western Alamance women’s basketball team, tallied 26 points as her team was able to slide by Eastern Guilford 63-57. She also added 11 points in a loss against Northeast Guilford. Her Coach, Dexter Robinson, said “She contributed on both ends of the floor, grabbing rebounds, providing assists in addition to being a vocal leader on the floor.
Pettaway, a senior on the North Pitt hoops team, scored 42 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as North Pitt came up short against Beddingfield 85-82. Just two days later he dumped in 35 points and snatched 7 boards as the Panthers clipped SouthWest Edgecombe 76-73. He is averaging 26.6 points per game and eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for his career during the week.
