Iredell deputies searching for murder suspect

STATESVILLE — Iredell Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man who may have been involved in the death of Hugh Lee Moose on Tuesday.
Moose, 80, was found dead in his home following a 911 hang-up call to 577 Shiloh Road. Deputies saw him through the home’s window, obviously injured.
Based on the injuries and evidence on the scene, the death was suspected to be a homicide.
Detectives are trying to identify a man seen in the area of the home. He is described as a white man, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, between the ages of 25 and 35. He was wearing light brown Carhartt-type overalls and had a dark-colored backpack. He was last seen on foot in the area between 5 and 8 p.m. He was last seen on a side road off Shiloh Road.
Anyone who can identify the man or who had contact with him or who has any information on the death of Moose is asked to call the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Hotline at 704-928-9804. Members of the homicide team will monitor the phone. Callers do not have to provide their identity.
