Catawba loses to Belmont Abbey in lacrosse home opener

SALISBURY — Tenth-ranked Belmont Abbey cruised to a 17-5 win over host Catawba in men’s lacrosse action on Friday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The win was the opener for the Crusaders, while the Indians fall to 1-1.

Cole Fanzo had two of the Catawba goals. Dalton Cook had a goal and two assists. Goalie Ryan Applegate stopped nine shots.

Kyle McGinley finished with four goals and an assist for the Crusaders. Goalie Harley Whitham posted 13 saves.

Catawba is home against Mount Olive for its next game a week from Saturday at 2 p.m.
