The men’s ministry of Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church will host a Gentlemen’s Tea at the Guiding Light Baptist Convention Center located at 308 Boundary St., East Spencer, today from 5 to 8 p.m. The program will feature dinner, gospel singing, Christian comedy, glamour shots and more. The FirstARTS
series of FUMC
The FirstARTS series of First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Church St., continues its ninth season Sunday at 11 a.m. with a service of music featuring Ola Gjeilo’s “Sunrise Mass.” Composed in 2007, this ethereal work is divided between four movements and will be accompanied by a string orchestra and choir under the direction of Matthew Michael Brown, director of music and organist.

Deacon GeoRene Jones will present the “Bridges Out of Poverty” model that identifies barriers to success and how to address them; explores how policies, procedures and practices create those barriers; and shares nine key resources (money is only one of them), etc. This session is both for those struggling with poverty and for those dedicated to helping others succeed. Immanuel to celebrate Mother’s Day
ROCKWELL — The members of Immanuel Lutheran will celebrate Mother’s Day by adorning the church sanctuary with red and white carnations placed in honor and memory of moms past and present. Mandy Shulenburger, coordinator for the Mother’s Day event, will present gifts to women in the congregation who have reached certain milestones on their life journeys and will honor all women with tidbits of humor and sentiment. Shulenburger will especially recount the lifetime of Edith Cauble Holshouser, the oldest member of the congregation, who died this past year at 95. Holshouser’s family members will light a candle in her memory. Rev. Bruce Sheeks serves as host pastor.

CHINA GROVE — During the 10:30 a.m. service, the Mt. Zion church family will celebrate Mother’s Day with a candle service of remembrance and thanksgiving which will include a special Mother’s Day devotional prepared by the Nancy Fisher Women’s Circle. All present will receive a pink carnation as a token of appreciation.

Yadkin Grove Baptist Church will celebrate Mother’s Day during Sunday’s 11 a.m. service.
Guest speaker will be Rev.Joyce Miles, pastor of the Southside Church of God in China Grove.
Rev. Miles has spoken for women’s conferences, Christian education symposiums, and prayer conferences worldwide, including Vietnam, Russia and Ukraine.
Rev. Miles was a professor of Christian education, teaching from 1989-1999 at East Coast College, and from 1999-2013 at Lee University. She is the widow of Rev. Douglas Miles to whom she was married for 42 years.
