Salisbury resident Antonio Lee was killed Sunday morning at Grant Street Apartments in East Spencer.

Two East Spencer police officers responded to a shots-fired call at 9:20 a.m. Sunday. They arrived within three minutes of the call, but Hargrave was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear, East Spencer Police Chief Sharon Hovis said the department does currently have a suspect. But she said that she could not speculate on when an arrest might be made because both the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the SBI are involved in the investigation.

Hovis said investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.

Officers found Hargrave somewhere between Building No. 27 and Building No. 30 of the apartment complex.

Hovis said there were “plenty of witnesses,” given the time of day that the shooting occurred.
