SALISBURY — Police were called to check on a man who was slumped over his steering wheel while parked overnight in a restaurant parking lot, but ended up charging him with heroin possession. Officers had to wake the man and found heroin in the car.
Salisbury Police charged Roger Garcia Jr., 24, of 408 Willow Road, with felony possession of a controlled substance Schedule I. He’s since been released from the county jail under a $2,500 secured bond.
The incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Hendrix Barbecue, 2488 Statesville Blvd.
When police arrived they saw a man in a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse who was unconscious with a syringe in his lap and one hanging from his right pant leg. He had not put the car in park and his foot was still on the brake. The officer finally was able to get the man, later identified as Roger Garcia, to come to and had him put the car in park.
Garcia was disoriented, according to a police report. He was checked out by first responders and EMS personnel. Police found a Modelo beer in the car and a water bottle with the cap removed. Police say the cap contained a small amount of heroin inside.
