Five local golfers in Dogwood State Junior Championship

ADVANCE — Five local junior golfers are participating in the 13th Dogwood State Junior Boys’ Championship at Bermuda Run Country Club.
After Tuesday’s first round, Salisbury’s Charlie Barr and Michael Childress are tied for 29th place, with 4-over par 76s. There are 140 players in the event.
Parker Chavis, of China Grove, carded an 82 and is tied for 100th.
Rockwell’s Bryson Sprinkle followed with an 83 and Andrew Coward, of Landis, shot an 87.
Peter Fountain, of Raleigh, just a rising high school sophomore, fired a 4-under par 68 en route to the first-round lead.
Tyler Partee, of Thomasville, son of former Salisbury High and Catawba College athlete Jon Partee, is tied for 22nd after a round of 75.
The second round is today and the field will be reduced to the top 70 and ties for Thursday’s final round.
