Local icons Biscuitville and Cheerwine come together

GREENSBORO – After years of existing side-by-side as iconic, family-owned Southern institutions, Biscuitville has joined forces with fellow local brand Cheerwine.

Starting this summer, Biscuitville will serve Cheerwine at most of its restaurants throughout North Carolina and Virginia.

Biscuitville is known for its Southern-style breakfasts and scratch-made biscuits. Cheerwine is the Salisbury soft drink beloved by generations of Southerners.

Like Biscuitville, Cheerwine was born and raised in North Carolina. Both brands are also enjoying landmark birthdays: Cheerwine is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and Biscuitville has been celebrating its 50thanniversary for the past year.

“We’re incredibly pleased that Cheerwine is now a member of Biscuitville’s growing family of local partners. When thinking about adding Cheerwine to our beverage selections, we looked at ourselves and thought, ‘Why didn’t we do this a long time ago?’ After all, both companies have been neighbors in North Carolina for generations,” said Burney Jennings, Biscuitville CEO. “We are particularly happy to be introducing Cheerwine at Biscuitville during the year that the soft drink is celebrating its 100thanniversary. From all of us at Biscuitville, happy birthday to our new friends at Cheerwine!”

“Just like Biscuitville, Cheerwine is a proud part of the fabric that makes up our collective Southern heritage,” Cheerwine Brand Manager Joy Harper said. “A fresh, hot biscuit from Biscuitville paired with an ice-cold Cheerwine is a perfect combination. We’re looking forward to being partners with Biscuitville for many years to come and are pleased to make Cheerwine available to our loyal fans who dine at Biscuitville.”

Comfort Keepers celebrates 16 years by making seniors’ dreams come true

Continues a senior’s wish initiative for North Carolina seniors

SALISBURY — To commemorate its 15-year anniversary in 2016, Comfort Keepers — based in Salisbury, NC — established “A Senior’s Wish,” which honors local, deserving seniors who have given so much of themselves to their friends, family and community.

For the second year in a row, Comfort Keepers invites you to nominate a deserving senior to receive the wish of a lifetime. It can be something on their bucket list or something they might have thought it was too late to pursue.

“Last year was our first year granting senior wishes and the nominations were so touching and it was such an honor to grant a few of these wishes. I am so excited to be offering ‘A Senior’s Wish’ for the second year in a row,” said Lori Eberly, Comfort Keepers owner. “’A Senior’s Wish’ is our chance to celebrate and brighten seniors’ lives with an opportunity they might never have been able to pursue on their own. It’s our way of giving back to the community that has supported us these past 16 years.”

“A Senior’s Wish” is made possible through partnerships with other area agencies and organizations. A few of the wishes that were granted last year included the construction of a handicap accessible ramp for a couple; a lift chair for an elderly woman with arthritic knees; and an all-expenses-paid trip that allowed a local senior to see the Gaither Vocal Band in Greensboro.

On behalf of the worthy senior, a nominating friend or family member can request a number of different types of wishes. These might include reconnecting loved ones, attending events or participating in a former hobby or passion that is now a challenging.

Family and friends are encouraged to submit nominations for admirable seniors. Nominations will be accepted from Aug. 1 through Sept. 15 and can be submitted online at ASeniorsWish.com or by completing a paper form, which can be downloaded at the same website.  You can request a paper copy be mailed to you by calling Comfort Keepers at 877-898-0060.

To be eligible, the nominee must be a minimum age of 65; a resident of Cabarrus, Catawba, Davidson, Davie, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, or a contiguous county; unable to fulfill the wish on their own; and capable of experiencing the wish.

Finalists will be selected by a panel of judges formed by Comfort Keepers based on adherence to age and residence requirements, integrity of the nominee, senior’s community involvement, impact that granting of the wish would have on the nominee, and the ability and practicality of administering the wish. Winners will then be selected by review of written entries and phone interviews.

Winners will be announced in October.
