Backpack blessing at Immanuel Lutheran
ROCKWELL — Immanuel Lutheran will host a Blessing of Backpack Service on Sunday, at 11 a.m. All students and school personnel, from preschool through adults, may bring backpacks, bookbags, and lunch boxes for a special dedication and blessing. Teachers, assistants, principals, other administrators, secretaries, cafeteria staff, librarians, custodians, and bus drivers are invited. Immanuel members will also continue collecting monetary donations for the Organ Lutheran Outreach Ministries for the acquisition of additional school supplies.

Homecoming at Miller’s Chapel AME Zion
Miller’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 920 Miller’s Chapel Road, will observe Homecoming on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The morning preacher is Rev. Hezekiah Lawson. The 3 p.m. guest preacher will be Pastor Steven Boyd of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Kannapolis. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m.
Revival services are Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 21-23, at 7 p.m. nightly, with guest preacher Rev. Dr. James A. French.
He is a graduate of Livingstone College (B.A.), Hood Theological Seminary (M. Div. and M.R.E.), and completed classroom studies for the Doctor of Ministry at Candler School of Theology. He was awarded the Doctor of Divinity Degree by Livingstone College.
Dr. French has served as a pastor in the West Central, Western North Carolina, West Alabama, Florida and the Central North Carolina Annual Conferences.
Mr. Jonathan French, the minister of Music at Little Rock AME Zion Church in Charlotte, will provide the music.
Cedar Grove homecoming
Cedar Grove will observe its annual Revival Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 21-23, at 7 p.m. nightly. Rev. Dr. Derrick Anderson, pastor of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church will be the revivalist.
The annual picnic at Cedar Grove is Saturday, Aug. 26, beginning at 11 a.m. Hot fish, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, snowballs, homemade ice cream and desserts will be available to purchase.

Patrick Hunter in concert
KANNAPOLIS — Patrick Hunter, minister of music and youth at North Kannapolis Baptist Church, 312 Locust St., will present a worship concert on Sunday at 6 p.m. The concert will also feature Neal Wilkinson and Jerrod Godwin, accompanist. Program at the Potter’s House
A special program, sponsored by the Women’s Ministry at the Potters’ House Outreach Ministries, is for men and women both.
It will be held Saturday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. at 119 A&B Clancy St.
Guest speaker Yvette Shelton was born in Salisbury to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Shelton. She was raised in East Spencerand attended Dunbar Elementary. She was an honor graduate of North Rowan High School.
She received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Bennett College and a master’s degree in project management from Colorado Technical University.
Shelton currently resides in Atlanta, where she is a member of Greater Traveler’s Rest Missionary Baptist Church, also known as the House of Hope Atlanta.
She is currently employed at Mikart Inc. as a research & development analytical chemist III, and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Yvette is the foundering editor of “Empower,” a monthly Christian magazine for teens, and the author of “Royalty,” a Bible study for African American youth.
Revs. Reginald and Gena Long are the host pastors.
United Ministerial Alliance joint worship
