SPENCER — Spencer town officials said 254 residents and businesses were without power Wednesday afternoon following heavy rains.

Residents along North Salisbury Avenue, between Newton Street and Lexington Avenue, reported the outages.

Outages were caused by downed power lines along North Salisbury Avenue, though town officials said they were unsure how the lines came down.

A  line also was reported down and power out on Jefferson Street between Rowan Avenue and North Whitehead Avenue.

A Duke Energy truck was on the scene, but town officials said they had received no estimate about how long repairs would take.
