Salisbury’s girls tennis team rolled at North Davidson, 9-0, on Thursday, the first loss of the season for the Black Knights.
Salisbury (8-1, 7-0) got singles wins from Maria Capito, Julia Honeycutt, Emma Nianouris, Lilly Rusher, Meredith Burton and Bethanie Stauffer.
Capito/Nianouris, Stauffer/Skye Mowery and Rachel Seifert/ Burton were winning doubles teams.
Salisbury hosts South Rowan on Monday.

East Rowan’s girls won against North Iredell, 5-4, in NPC tennis on Thursday.
Singles winners for East were Angel Scialdone, Lauren Weisenel, Mia Graham and Kristen Brady.
The team of Scialdone/Weisensel won a decisive doubles match.

Carson’s girls won against South Iredell, 6-3, in NPC tennis on Thursday.
Emily Sloop, Siera Fesperman and Maci Cooper won in singles for the Cougars. Carson’s Fesperman/Gabi Jolly, Sloop/Jadyn Kirkpatrick and Cooper/Quinnlan Watson swept doubles.

West Rowan’s girls won at Statesville, 9-0, on Thursday in NPC tennis.
Singles winners were Payton Holt, Madison Smith, Skylar Jahnke, Mira White, Tabby Landy and Kelsie Crider.
Jahnke/White, Smith/Abby Johnson and Haley Foster/Gracie Wise won in doubles.
West is scheduled to play at East Rowan on Tuesday.
Intimidators
Pitcher Luis Martinez spearheaded a 4-0 Kannapolis Intimidators win in the first game of a best-of-three playoff series on Thursday in Greensboro.
Martinez threw five scoreless innings. Four Kannapolis arms combined to limit Greensboro to three hits while earning the franchise’s first playoff win since the 2005 championship season.
Luis Gonzalez homered.
The Intimidators play at home tonight at 7.
Prep volleyball
South Rowan swept Thomasville in a CCC match on Thursday, 25-7, 25-14 and 25-20.
South (6-5, 4-2 CCC) got eight aces, 12 digs and 16 assists from setter Michaela Hallman. Anna Blume had nine aces. Jenna Strickland had 11 digs. Kira Rymer had 10 digs and 18 kills, Janiya Downs had 10 kills. Katelyn Goodman had eight digs.

Kendall Rockstad and Kendall Walter combined for 11 kills to lead South’s jayvees past Thomasville.

In Carson’s 3-1 win against East Lincoln on Wednesday, Lindsay Elmore had 22 kills.
Mallory Weast had 10 kills,. Jaden Vaughn had 14 kills. Sophie Andrews had five kills. Grace Thomas had 23 assists, and Kary Hales had 40 digs.
The Cougars are 9-1. They start NPC play next week.
Jayvee football
Carson (2-0) rolled against North Rowan, 35-14, in jayvee football on Thursday.
Evan Johnston scored two TDs for the Cougars, while C.P. Pyle rushed for 135 yards.
Michael Gonsalves got the scoring scoring started for the Cougars with a 6-yard run. They led at the break, 21-6.
Alex London had a 9-yard scoring run. Pyle picked off pass and returned it to the North 1-yard line late in the contest, and Christ Sanchez got the final TD.
Ben Blumenthal intercepted a pass for the Cougars. Andrew Rollins recovered a fumble. Gonsalves excelled on special teams. Jadon Vernon blocked a PAT attempt.
QB Javon Smith and Ty’shon Sifford accounted for the North TDs.

Davie County (1-2) cruised to a 41-6 win against West Rowan on Thursday. Nate Hampton had two TD passes, while Ben Crenshaw had two TD receptions and a 75-yard kickoff return TD. Davie rushed for 209 yards.

Salisbury’s defense had an inspired effort in a 20-6 win at Thomasville.
Thomasville’s only score came on a fumble recovery.
Jadarius Wood led the Salisbury defense.
Patrick Taylor, Cameron Cherry and Sincere Houston scored touchdowns for the Hornets.
Prep soccer
More frustration for Salisbury’s soccer team on Thursday — a 1-0 loss to Central Davidson, one of the teams at the top of the CCC. The Hornets (1-5-1, 0-4 CCC) are playing well defensively but are experiencing a scoring drought.
William Curry scored the lone goal of the match for the Spartans.

Erwin won against Knox, 6-3, on Thursday.
Erwin got singles wins from Lauren Whisnant, Rebecca Reilly, Joanna Thompson and Summer Null. Riley Isley/Audrey Ward and Thompson/Null won doubles matches.
Abby Campion and Sophie Chimel won in singles for the Trojans. Autumn Walser/Sage Hoffman took a doubles victory.
Middle schools
8th-grade football: West Rowan 28, South Stanly, 0; Erwin 12, Southeast 6.
Softball: Southeast 18, Knox 0; Mooresville 10, China Grove 2; West Rowan 15, Corriher-Lipe 0; Erwin 17, North Rowan 0 (the game honored the memory of coach Starr Forney).
S. Charlotte Panthers
The South Charlotte Panthers will begin their fall season by playing at Newman Park at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The 2018 Panthers went 28-9-3.
• Owen White (Carson) batted .286 with 15 RBIs and 19 runs. He was 2-0 on the mound with 28 strikeouts in 26 innings. His ERA was 0.27.
• Maddux Holshouser (Carson) was 3-0 on the mound with 30 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings and an ERA of 1.86.
• Cameron Prugh (Carson) was 4-0 on the mound with three saves. He fanned 22 in 27 innings.His ERA was 0.78.
• Pitcher/outfielder Cordarius Butler (A.L. Brown) will be rejoining the team this fall. He’s getting close to a full recovery from a knee injury.
• Hayden Setzer (East Rowan), a lefty hitter who plays first base, outfield and pitches will be joining the Panthers for the first time this fall.

Wake Forest commit Hite Merrifield batted .263 with seven doubles, 18 RBIs, 17 runs and eight steals.
• Bo Rusher (Salisbury) batted ,309 with 17 RBIs and 17 runs.
