Salisbury man jailed under $1.5 million bond, police seize $60,000 worth of drugs

SALISBURY — Authorities seized $60,000 worth of drugs and more than $10,000 in cash after the arrest of a man during a traffic stop Monday.

Joseph Worley Alexander III, 37, of Salisbury was in the Rowan County jail under a $1.5 million bond after he was charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana.

Alexander was charged with trafficking in a Schedule II controlled substance; possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule II substance; possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI substance; maintaining a dwelling and maintaining a vehicle for drug trafficking; possession of a firearm by a felon; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities say after a monthlong investigation, police narcotics investigators stopped a black Ford Explorer at the intersection of South Fulton and South Main streets. Alexander was driving the rented vehicle.

He was arrested and authorities found cocaine on him. A search warrant was served as his home, 322 Henry Laurens Circle. Police say investigators seized 16.2 ounces of cocaine, 14.6 ounces marijuana, three handguns, $10,543.00 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

Alexander is expected to have a first court appearance on Wednesday.
