SALISBURY — After leading officers on a short vehicle chase Saturday night, a local man was charged with reckless driving and having a suspended license, according to Salisbury police.
Jesus Ernesto Garcia, 31, of Gold Hill Circle, faces charges of misdemeanor driving while license suspended or revoked, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, and fleeing to elude arrest.
According to a police report, an officer tried to stop a Chevrolet Tahoe in the 700 block of West Innes Street just after 8 p.m. Saturday. The officer noticed the motorist made a sharp turn, squealing his tires in the process, and then proceeded at a high rate of speed. Police said he was driving 60 mph in a 35-mph zone.
He nearly struck a vehicle in the oncoming lane, but police were able to pull the driver over near the Sherwin-Williams paint store on West Innes Street. The report said the man didn’t initially comply with officers’ demands, but they were eventually able to get him out of the vehicle.
The officer determined that Garcia’s driver’s license was recently revoked after a driving-while-impaired charge.
