SALISBURY — A Kannapolis man was killed in a shooting at Laurel Pointe Apartments just before midnight Tuesday, according to the Salisbury Police Department.

At 11:59 p.m. Monday, police responded to a report of shots fired at the 200 building of the apartment complex. A witness reported seeing an injured person being loaded into a vehicle that left the scene.

Police officers went to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center where the victim, Isaiah Malik Gillespie, 20, of Kannapolis, had been taken in a private vehicle. Gillespie died of gunshot wounds.

Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said Terry Watson lives at 708 N. Green St. and is wanted for murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and assault on a female. She said Watson assaulted his former girlfriend Monday. The shooting was reportedly brought on by a dispute about a girlfriend.

Police said Watson shot Gillespie while he sat in a vehicle.

Officials said the shooting is not connected to Friday’s fatal shooting at Taco Bell on East Innes Street or to any previous homicides this year.

Salisbury police investigators and the State Bureau of Investigations are investigating.
