As families cope with dementia, parents may seek help explaining to their children the changes in their grandparents or great-grandparents.
A new book, “Grandma and Me: A Kid’s Guide for Alzheimer’s and Dementia,” provides a child-friendly explanation of dementia and can open the door to much-needed family conversation about the condition. Children can find reassurance in the story of Matthew and his special relationship with his grandmother, who has Alzheimer’s disease.
The book’s authors, Mary Ann Drummond and Beatrice Tauber Prior, will be at Trinity Oaks Health and Rehabilitation, 820 Klumac Road, at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a book signing.
Hot cocoa, s’mores, wine and cheese will be available.
Adults attending are encouraged to bring their children. Guests are asked to reserve a space with Teresa Dakins at 704-603-2776.
