Man arrested for child abuse, weapon of mass destruction

A Kannapolis man has been arrested on more than five charges, including child abuse and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.
While exact details of the incident are unavailable, warrants show that the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office on Friday arrested Billy Ray Nelson, 26, of Tree Limb Lane, Kannapolis.
Nelson has been charged with assault by strangulation, assault by pointing a gun, communicating threats, possessing or manufacturing a weapon of mass destruction and child abuse.
He is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center without bond. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety he has no previous charges.
