Filing for several public offices ends today

SALISBURY — The window to file to run for several local political offices in the 2018 elections will end at noon today.
Candidates can file at either the Rowan County Board of Elections Office or the State Board of Elections Office in Raleigh.
A primary will be held May 8, with the general election to follow on Nov. 6.
Rowan County seats and filings costs are:
• N.C. Senate District 33, $207.
Incumbent senators who represented Rowan County — Dan Barrett, R-34, and Tom McInnis, R-25, — will run in other districts according to the 2018 legislative maps.
To date, two Republicans have filed for the District 33 seat: Carl Ford and Bill Sorenson.
• N.C. House of Representatives Districts 76, 77 and 83, $207.
Incumbents include Carl Ford, R-76; Harry Warren, R-77; and Linda P. Johnson, R-83. All of them have filed for different seats because of redistricting.
Warren and Democrat Joe Fowler have filed in District 76. Democrat Bonnie Dawn Clark is campaigning to challenge Republican Julia Craven Howard in District 77. And Democrats Gail Young and Senah Andrews are running to challenge Republicans Michael Anderson and Larry G. Pittman in District 83.
• Rowan County commissioner (three seats), $131.82.
Incumbent Republicans Greg Edds, Jim Greene and Judy Klusman all have filed for re-election. Republicans Craig Pierce and Michael Julian and Democrat Latasha Wilks have also filed.
• Clerk of court, $998.34.
Incumbent Clerk of Court Jeff Barger has filed for re-election, with the race currently uncontested.
• Register of deeds, $605.45.
Incumbent John Brindle has filed for re-election and is currently uncontested.
• Sheriff, $851.92.
Incumbent Kevin Auten has filed for re-election and is currently uncontested.
• Kannapolis Board of Education, Cabarrus and Area 1 seats, $5.
Seats up for election are those held by Danita Rickard and Daniel Wallace. Kristina Tutterow Cook, Brenda McCombs and Jessica Dixon Touart have all filed for the Area 1 seat.
• Rowan County district attorney, $1,282.
Candidates must file in Raleigh. Brandy Cook is the incumbent and is currently running uncontested.
• U.S. House Districts 8 and 13, $1,740.
Republican Reps. Richard Hudson and Ted Budd are incumbents in the 8th and 13th congressional districts, respectively. Both have filed for re-election, and there are five Democratic challengers across both races.
Frank McNeill, Scott Huffman and Marc Tiegel have filed for the District 8 seat. Kathy Manning and Adam Coker have filed for the District 13 seat.
Candidates must file for congressional offices in Raleigh.
