Blotter: Vehicle stopped on interstate; driver charged with marijuana possession

SALISBURY — One person was charged with drug offenses and another one cited after Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to investigate a report that a vehicle was stopped in the middle of Interstate 85.

Deputies initially believed that the occupants of the vehicle were passed out.

The driver, Aaron Scott Denson, 35, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. A passenger, Kenneth James Fleming, 28, was issued a citation for misdemeanor marijuana possession.

The incident occurred Sunday in the 70000 block of South Interstate 85 in China Grove.

Someone called 911 to say that two people were passed out in a vehicle in the middle of the road. A Rowan County sheriff’s deputy responded and said he saw marijuana residue on the vehicle’s console. The officer searched the vehicle and found a bag of marijuana.

The deputy also noted the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

In other Rowan County Sheriff’s Office reports:

• A woman on Friday reported an assault and property damage in the 200 block of China Grove Road, China Grove.

• A woman on Friday reported a stolen vehicle in the 70000 block of South Interstate 85, China Grove, between March 14 and Friday.

• Oceana Jane Washington, 26, was charged Saturday with misdemeanor resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer by providing false information; possession of marijuana; driving while license revoked; and a parking violation while in the 800 block of West Ryder Avenue, Landis.

• Wanda Brown Funderburk, 51, was charged Saturday with misdemeanor marijuana possession, misdemeanor resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer; and having an unsealed alcoholic beverage in the passenger area. Her vehicle was stopped in the 69800 block of South Interstate 85, China Grove.

• Robert Lee Lewis, 25, was charged Saturday with misdemeanor possession of  marijuana and speeding in the 8800 block of Statesville Boulevard and N.C. 801.

• Jonathan Carlos Jaquez, 21, was charged Saturday with misdemeanor marijuana possession after a traffic stop in the 100 block of Blackwelder Street, Kannapolis.

• Leonardo Soto, 20, was charged Saturday with misdemeanor possession of marijuana after a traffic stop in the 100 block of Miller Road and West Church Street, China Grove.

• Kelli Marie Norman, 28, was charged Saturday with felony possession of heroin; misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; misdemeanor possession of an unsealed alcoholic beverage in the passenger area; driving while impaired; and automatic 30-day license revocation during a traffic stop at Old Beatty Ford and Mount Zion Church roads.

• Brian Seth Blackwell, 17, was charged Sunday with misdemeanor marijuana possession in the 9100 block of Bringle Ferry Road.

• James Isaac Leonard, 23, was charged Sunday wth misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia in the 9100 block of Bringle Ferry Road.

• John Dodd Rakowski, 18, was charged Sunday with felony cocaine possession in the 9100 block of Bringle Ferry Road.

• Adama Richard Jarratt, 27, was charged Sunday with felony possession of a controlled substance Schedule I in the 800 block of Mitchell Avenue, China Grove.

• James Robert Gaither 32, was charged Sunday with misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun in the 6500 block of Foster Road, Woodleaf.

• Malcolm Jerome Lewis, 26, was charged Sunday with misdemeanor marijuana possession in the 1000 block of Glock Court.
