The North Carolina Division of Air Quality will hold a public hearing tonight regarding a proposed air quality permit for Duke Energy.
It will be held at 7 p.m. at North Rowan High School with time for public comment.
The permit will allow Duke Energy to reprocess and recycle coal ash stored at Buck Steam Station in Salisbury. The ash will be re-burned to reduce excess carbon and make the material suitable for concrete and other building materials.
Neighbors of the station have expressed concern over potentially harmful emissions from the processing center.
North Rowan High School is located at 300 N. Whitehead Ave. in Spencer. For more information, contact Deborah Graham at nutgraham@gmail.com.
