SALISBURY — A woman was shot twice at a home on Ivy Street when two men approached the door Wednesday night. One of the men fired into the house, striking the woman, the Salisbury Police Department said.

The shooting occurred at 11:57 p.m. Police received a report that someone had been shot at 815 Ivy St., off South Jake Alexander Boulevard and Morlan Park Road.

Police say the 66-year-old woman was shot in the buttocks and leg. Investigators don’t believe she was the intended target but say witnesses heard an altercation earlier at the home.

Authorities say one suspect brandished a gun and banged on the door asking for someone. The person who answered the door said he did not know who the suspect was looking for.

The gunman went back to a vehicle, which was described as a Nissan. Another man approached the home with a long gun, possibly a rifle, and fired into the home.

The woman was hit by a gunshot, and fire and EMS crews were called to the scene. Before their arrival, a police officer tried to stop the bleeding, said police Capt. Brian Stallings.

The woman was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center and later transferred to another hospital. She is expected to be OK.

The suspects are described as a medium brown-skinned black man and a heavyset black man.
